Enamel Work
Jewellace are currently researching historical enamelling techniques and will shortly offer a range of pendants, initially in copper and silver and eventually gold, created  on Jewellace premises.
Enamel work has been found in the ancient Greek and Egyptian world. It is estimated that enamelling and related methods date back to 4000 BC.

Early enamel work is rarely found, as many gold items were melted down and reused. The image on the left is a brooch from the 1400s.

Enamel was not only used with gemstones, but as a substitute, glass set within wires or in wells, engraved into the metal.

It is my aim to try all enamelling methods, using the techniques which would be familiar to the medieval craftsman.
I will be producing enamel items with and without gemstones, keeping closely to the designs of the past.

Work will be shown here in the summer of 2010.
